Obituary of Warren A. Field
Please share a memory of Warren to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Warren A. Field, of Pitman, N.J., died at his home on January 30, 2010, he was 96. Mr. Field was born on June 5, 1913, in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of Carl A. and Rhoda (nee Grinde) Field. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, with a degree in chemistry. His wife Lura (nee Wilks) preceded him in death in 1998, after 53 years of marriage. Mr. Field was honorably discharged from the army after serving as a Staff Sergeant, training thousands of men for battle, and then himself participating in the European Theatre in WWII. Having met his wife during basic training, Mr. Field began a courtship through letter writing, culminating in a written proposal, which was happily accepted.
After the war, the couple settled in Passaic, N.J. and Mr. Field enjoyed a 32 year career as a chemist for Hoffman LaRoche, in Nutley, encompassing many high points and honors.
Though he had hoped to reach 98, Mr. Field had a life filled with varied interests. He was an avid traveler and reader, especially of history and biographies. He had a strong interest in his family genealogy, and was a body builder into his 80's, having developed the interest long before it was fashionable. Mr. Field was also a collector of many things, notably, his love of music led to an album collection of almost 4000 titles. Having moved to Pitman in 1977, Mr. Field took a liking to the Philadelphia Phillies, and became an ardent fan.
Mr. Field is survived by his daughter, Linda Kilbert, of Pitman; it was Linda's willingness to care for her father that allowed him to remain in his own home. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Alexander Chisarik (Fay), of Pitman, Julie Heffron (Dan), of Ruckersville, Virginia, and Keith Chisarik (Monica), of Woodstown, N.J.
