Two things will always stand out to me about Uncle Bill, his unpredictability and his gift of gab with total strangers (the complete opposite of me). I can remember him just showing up without warning at our house in Basking Ridge any number of times. It drove my mom crazy because she wanted to extend gracious hospitality and a special meal when he visited but she never had the chance! He would regale us with tales of his most recent wanderings. He also just showed up at the Princeton University Library more than once to surprise me.Uncle Bill also got me interested in genealogy and I can remember him taking me to visit Uncle Carleton in north Jersey, to get all the information he could from Carleton. He never forgot to send me a birthday card, and he was very supportive of music. He was so different from Dad, even to his accent when he spoke, that it sometimes amazed me.
