Obituary of Matthew John Farrell

Please share a memory of Matthew to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Matthew Farrell, 84, died Saturday, October 10, 2015 in Pitman, New Jersey after a brief illness. He leaves his loving wife of 61 years, Iris (Pirwitz) Farrell; his adoring daughters, Kareen Kakouris, Maureen Kolbe, and Coleen Barton and their respective spouses, Andreas, Paul, and John; seven loving grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and many appreciative nieces and nephews. Matt is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Farrell and his siblings, Peter, James, May McLaren, and Rose McCafferty. Matt was born and raised in Paisley, Scotland. After serving in the British Armed Forces in Germany where he met his beloved Iris, he emigrated to the United States. Iris eventually followed, as did marriage and the birth of their three daughters. In life, Matt was a man of many talents. After retiring from years of working as a marine surveyor, he and Iris became Innkeepers of a Scottish country inn - the Highland Fling Inn, in Fleischmanns, New York. No one crooned an Irish ballad like Matt, or could cook up a more delicious potato leek soup. No one could laugh harder at their own jokes than Matt, reeling in all around him. He was very loved and will be greatly missed. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 14th, 2015 at Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish, Our Lady Queen of Peace Church on Pitman Avenue at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
