I am a horrible checker of voicemail, and my heart broke when I heard of Bob's passing and that I had missed my chance to pay my respects. So many concerts, Pretenders, Bruce, Elvis Costello, Stanley Cup Finals against Gretzky with Bob and my Dad. The many Thursdays at Ram's Gate watching the Flyers and Cheers and all that was good about the late 80's. Great memory of bringing my kids to see Bob and his son play baseball in the senior league tourney at West Deptford. My sympathies to the family and friends and to a world that is diminished without the prospect of hearing "Yo, Buzz, I got an extra ticket..." and then the adventure begins....

I first Met Bob 8 years ago during fall ball I am a West Deptford coach. Our team wasn't very good that year and Bob knew it. On the final weekend of the season Bob put together a little weekend tournament. He asked me to participate but I was not very interested based on our record (no wins. Bob convinced me to paly and our first game was against Bob's team. Let's just say that I could see that Bob structured his line up in such a way that I knew we could be competitive. Well we won that game and the West Deptford kids were thrilled to get their first win of the season. I thanked Bob for what he did and his repsonse was"Its all about the kids" That was Bob. HE was all about the kids. A couple of years later I found myself in a similar situation to help a coach and I recalled what Bob had done for me so I used Bob's philosophy and re structured a line up to help that coach. Bob and I coached against each other many times both in regular season games and All Star games and I always enjoyed those games because I knew the quality of the individual he was a classy, fun guy to be around and I will miss him. My condolences to his family I am sure he will be sorely missed.

If ever there was a man who had a ticket to heaven, it’s Bob—and it’s probably a pretty good seat, too.

One day several years ago(I believe that it was the spring of 2003), I was driving home from work listening to the Phillies game on the radio. It was an afternoon game that was being played against the Marlins in Florida. During the game, the late Harry Kalas stated that a great Phillies fan by the name of Bob Peel was at the game that day supporting the Phillies. When I heard this, I thought that it had to be another person by the name of Bob peel since the game was being played in Florida. I had Bob's cell phone mnumber back then, so I decided to call him to tell him that a person with his name was in Florida at the Phillies game. When Bob answered his cellphone, I heard all of this background noise and cheering. When I told Bob what I heard on the radio, Bob started to laugh and told me that it was him at the Phillies game. He said he had some free time so he thought it would be fun to go to Florida to see the Phillies game. After that day, every time the Phillies play a game in Florida, I always think of Bob. I am sure that i will continue to do so for many years to come. Bob was always very friendly and always took the time to talk to you or to say Hi if he saw you at a restaurant or in a store. I will miss his warm smile and great sense of humor.

To Mrs. Peel and family,
First I would like to say how sorry we are for your loss. I realize words cannot heal the pain and sorrow you are feeling, but hopefully they can help. If you need anything, please contact me or anyone from the GCBL.
Many people throw around the phrase " Good Guy" casually without giving it much thought. After many thoughts and memories of Bob, I can said he was truly a Good Guy.
I first met Bob at a GCBL meeting 7 years ago when he stuck out his hand, introduced himself and welcomed me aboard. As a new Town Representative I was a little lost as to what to do. Bob pulled me aside after the meeting and said if I needed any help, just to ask, and that I did. He was very helpful and always made time to answer questions.
Through the years I spoke to Bob more and more and found out how much he really did for his community, not only for basketball, but for baseball too. Bob truly wanted to help each and every child in Glassboro if he could. But his work wasn't limited to children, when Grant Shivers house burnt down, he quickly organized a basketball tournament, with all the proceeds going to the Shivers family. That was Bob, if some needed help, he was there.
Now that I am President of the GCBL, I was excited to see Bob accept a nomination to be on the Board again. Bob's experience, knowledge, voice of reason and genuine concern for the best interest of the children of Glassboro and GCBL will be sorely missed.
Bob, THANK YOU for all that you have done over the years and you will be missed!!
God Bless. God's speed and Rest In Peace.
Sincerely,
Mike Sullivan
President, GCBL

Bob was a kind-hearted guy who gave a great deal of his time, energy, and emotions to the community's athletes. I found him to be extremely intelligent, sensitive, and likable. I'll never forget how he pulled everyone together in hosting a basketball tournament to benefit a family victimized by a fire. I will miss him and really, no one was ready for his departure. My prayers go out to the Peel family during this difficult time.

I was fortunate to know Bob for 27 years as I was his roommate at WCU from 84 to 86. Some of my best memories in college were times spent with him. Although, I hadn't seen him in person for quite sometime as I now live in Texas, I had been in touch with him via e-mail and text over the years. It won't seem the same anymore when watching a Phillies or Eagles game as we often communicated with each other during games. He will ve sorely missed. My sympathies go out to the entire Peel family.
