Charlie and Sis started out as friends of John's parents, Anne and Les Richards. We sat next to Sis' Mom in Church, on the back row. My son David use to play with the strawberries on her sweater. We started our own friendship with Charlie and Sis when we sold Easter flowers on the side of our house on Green Tree Road, the future site of Bunker Hill Custard. Charlie would come for 4 days and help us sell tulips and daffodils. Charlie was very personable and very helpful to the customer. He was such an asset. He was also entertaining to us - we laughed so hard, the days went by fast. We worked him hard too. He and Sis were like a father and mother to us - and great friends. We moved to Colorado and our visits to NJ were limited, but we always went to see Sis and Charlie. We spoke to them several times a year, either we called them or they called us. Our last visit was Thanksgiving of 2007. We went to dinner with them and John's sister Roz. Charlie was in pain then - and kind of quiet but as charming and funny as always. I have a video of him and Sis that I took with my camera and when I get to feeling sad about his being gone, I'll be able to play that video. I'll never forget him nor the wonderful times we had nor the love we felt for him.
We'll miss him.
