I was at the funeral service today. I don't know if Andy pre-planned his own service, but I feel like if he would have, it would have been what took place today.
I think once or twice he used his saying, "Let me give you a friendly suggestion." to me at Parke Place. I didn't realize that was his special introduction to giving advice.
Although not specifically said at the service today, I got a picture in my mind of Andy and God doing the gardening as a partnership together, kind of like Adam did with God back in the 1st garden.

Patti, Judy and Bob: We were certainly saddened by the news of Uncle Drew's passing. Our sympathies to all of the Flack family at this time.
We spoke a bit about Uncle Drew last night and the wonderful man he was. I remember fondly his passion for gardening, especially azaleas. He once took time with me at our house in Paradise to give me specific instructions about how to trim and manage our azaleas so we would have bountiful growth the following season. A man of integrity, compassion and a quietness that was so refreshing. Of course, hard to get a word in edgewise with the Metzler girls. You will certainly be in our thoughts. So sorry that we are unable to be with you on Saturday.

Uncle Drew,
To my very special Uncle and friend, we will miss your presence but always remember you in spirit...
That is what I will remember, Your bravery and your love, That caring wise and watchful eye, which now peers at us from above.
I knew the man you became
The uncle who I adore
The leader of a family
Who gave us more and more.
There were so many lessons
Most important how to fight
To be proud of who we are
Stand up with all our might.
Through all the important moments you made sure to be there, with all our family members looking to you in glare.
Your body had made a comeback, but you wouldn't let us know, you grinned and bared the pain without no despair.
Then last Wednesday when I heard the news, and as cold as the weather was, I took a walk along the waterfront crying & praying for you. And even though my heart was saddened, a peace came over me, that you are now in Heaven, a place we all strive to be.
And still the pain didn't matter, you fought to stay with your wife, you promised you'd never leave her so you strained and clung to life.
The truest gift you gave her
was your presence all to bear, and when you could no longer last, your spirit came to pass.
This is what I'll remember
Your bravery and your love
That caring wise and watchful eye, that now peers at us from above.
With deepest sympathy,
Ray Metzler
