Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. Our families had the good fortune of having Ms. Shafer as a teacher at West End. A very wonderful teacher and a very happy and kind person.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for I too know the pain of losing someone you love. May your family find comfort as I have in knowing that our loving heavenly Father promises us that very soon he will 'swallow up death forever, and certainly wipe the tears from all faces.' (Isaiah 25:8) What a wonderful day that will be!

Miss Shafer was my third grade teacher at the West End School in Woodbury. I recall how very young she was (as was I!), but even at the age I was then I recognized her youth. I figure that she was just starting out back then. Although I've not seen her since I was about 8 years old (1964!), I recall quite clearly how vivacious and positive she always was; she had a clear and vibrant voice, and she was very much in charge. When her memory comes to mind, I smile as I recall her love of matching colors and how this was reflected in her choice of clothing. I'd always stare at her shoes: cute square-heeled leather pumps in bright, solid primary colors with a single color-matched leather flower at the squared-off toe. She must've loved that style because she had the same design in several of the bright primary colors of yellow, green, orange, etc. She often wore A-line sleeveless shifts during the warm-weather months in the same primary colors to match the shoes. In the cooler months, she'd wear the darker colors. I recall her once wearing a smart navy suit with a knee-length trumpet skirt, cream satin blouse and strands of long chains around the neck.....and the shoes....in navy. Miss Shafer was bubbly and happy during classes and that impression has remained with her former student to the present.. I am truly sorry for her family, friends, and for her affiliaties that she has passed. She was still much too young. Please recall the happy times and remember that your connection with her will remain falways. I'm sending prayers on the wind....
