Obituary of Grace Brown
Please share a memory of Grace to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Grace A. Brown (nee Patrick), age 86, passed away quietly after a long struggle with Alzheimer's on February 1, at her home in Mickleton, NJ, where she has lived since 1948. She was raised in Mannington Township, Salem County, NJ.
As a strong supporter of farming and farm families, Grace was a life-long member of both the NJ and American Farm Bureaus. She was active in all levels of The Grange, holding offices and serving on numerous committees in the Mullica Hill Grange #51, and Gloucester County Pomona Grange #8. Grace was an officer and a member of several committees for both the NJ State and National Granges. She was a Director with the Gloucester County Board of Agriculture, and was a recipient of their Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award. Grace had a lovely singing voice and often performed at Grange and The Friends Meeting. She loved crafts, working in her garden and received awards for her fruit and vegetable canning. Many chicken barbeques were served by her for the Gloucester County 4-H. While her children were attending Kingsway Regional High School, she was an active Band Booster, helping with costumes, fundraisers and parades. Grace was a former rural postal carrier at the Mickleton Post Office, and stepped in to help at the Candy Box in Richwood during holiday seasons.
Together with her beloved late husband, Richard S. Brown, she raised seven children: Susan Handron (John) of Cape May Courthouse, NJ; Clinton (Janet) of Mickleton, NJ; Loretta Tucker (Mark) of Jupiter, FL; Amy Gac (Gerry) of Waxhaw, NC; Roy (Debbie) of National Park, NJ; Timothy (Bridget) of Mickleton, NJ; and Steven of Mickleton, NJ. Also mourning her loss are 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Grace was predeceased by her brother, Samuel Patrick, and sister, Imogene Patrick.
