Obituary of Charles Walter Bowers III

Charles W. Bowers III (Chick) passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, June 8th. Born in Woodbury, Chick was raised predominantly in Pitman, NJ with his mother. He graduated Pitman high school in 1954 and attended The Wharton School of Business. Chick worked for Mobil Oil Refinery in Paulsboro for 46 years retiring from the accounting and purchasing dept. in 2000. Chick was also the president of the Guild of Ethical Hypnotists in 1969-1970, and taught hypnosis at Washington Township High School. After retirement he moved to Mays Landing. Chick was a member of the Wenonah Presbyterian Church, the Consistory, and a beloved Brother in Pitman's Masonic Lodge #197. During his retirement, Chick was was a dedicated volunteer for the American Red Cross and an EMT for Atlantic County. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Elsie Bowers, and his loving wife, Sara. Survived by his 7 children, Deborah Slavoff, Linda Deitrich-Wong, Teri Miller, Gary Bowers, Cindy Spurr, Beth Samuel, and Brad Bowers, and his 13 grandchildren. Friends and family are invited for a memorial visitation from 9:30 – 10:45 AM at the Kelley Funeral Home, 125 Pitman Ave., Pitman, NJ on Friday, June 14th. A Masonic Service will be held at 10:45 AM. A memorial service for Chick will follow at 11:00 AM. Those desiring may make a memorial contribution in Chick's name to the Pitman Masonic Lodge #197 F & AM, 334 Lambs Rd., Sewell, NJ 08080.
