Obituary of William Jeffrey Downer

William Jeffrey "Jeff" Downer, died suddenly on August 9, 2023, at the age of 72. Jeff was pre-deceased by his parents William and Rose Downer. Jeff was a genial and friendly soul who loved conversation. He was also kind and had an excellent sense of humor, often bringing joy and laughter to those in his sphere. He graduated from Glassboro High School in 1969 and attended Wesley College. Jeff worked for years as a deliveryman for Decca Batteries of Philadelphia. He also was a mailman in Pitman, where he lived most of his life. His childhood home was officially in Glassboro, but the mailing address was in Pitman. He knew at least half the town. In retirement, he worked at Heritages. He also worked the polls in Pitman for many years during elections. Jeff was a very talented musician. He played organ and the piano and was in the bell choir at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Clayton. He also sang in many choirs, particularly with the Gloucester County Community Chorus. Jeff was an avid reader and had an interest in U.S. history. He was a big fan of William McKinley and John Wanamaker. He enjoyed family gatherings, trips to Vermont, and the family's traditional Christmas pudding. Jeff is survived by many cousins, family, and friends. He will be sorely missed by those who knew him. A celebration of Jeff's life will be September 23, 2023 at 11am in Trinity Methodist Church, 351 N. Delsea Dr, Clayton, NJ 08312.
