I met Warren in late 1962 after completion of Army Basic Training at Ft. Dix New Jersey. We had both enlisted in the Army Security Agency and were sent to Ft. Monmouth N.J. for further training. For the next 2.5 years Warren and I shared the same duty assignments in Turkey and West Germany. In August 1965 I met Warren again as we were on the same plane departing Germany for return to Ft. Dix and discharge from active duty. Warren was a very dedicated and honorable soldier, he was a good friend and could be depended upon to complete his military responsibilities. Warren and I shared many experiences from riding in the back on a 2.5 ton truck in central Turkey, flying in a DC-3 to the Holy Lands, traveling on horseback to Petra to taking Army driving training class in Frankfurt Germany.
I offer my sincere condolence to Brigitte and family.

I’ve known Warren for over twenty-five years as a fellow Alcyon park doggie walker. From his angels Snoopy and Bella to his current sweetheart Phoebe. I will always remember what a wonderful, kind, and loving person he was and his great sense of humor with infectious laugh! He would always stop to check on how I and my fur babies were doing and we would talk for quite sometime on all kinds of life events. When football season came around we would talk about his beloved Eagles and my beloved Giants. I would love to hear his interesting and insightful analysis on the season, games, and the players. He was a devoted family man and loved animals as much as I do. I will miss him tremendously and Alcyon park will never be the same without him!

Mr. Swartwood was like family to me. Being best friends with his son allowed me to get to know him more than just my HS Chemistry teacher over the past 35+ years. So many fond memories of him, most involve his generosity of his time. From driving us to concerts, theme parks, airports -basically everywhere he was always happy to help inside of school and out. From transforming our school gym into magical Proms to coaching and helping out others in need. He was a kind, gentle man who loved to spend time and walk his fur babies. My heartfelt condolences to Brigitte, Warren and Family. He will be greatly missed.

I was deeply saddened to hear of your loss and am praying you find strength, comfort and peace.
Lexi (my dog) and I met Warren and Phoebe (his dog) at Alcyon park. We always had quick chats because these two gals had so much energy and we had to keep moving. Warren’s kind and caring manner with Phoebe was special. He willed be missed by his Alcyon friends.

The world lost a great man and many of us lost a good friend. I started working in Pitman in 1970. The first year thru friends that worked there introduced me to Warren. We became very good friends while working together during our summers. After the academic year we worked for the maintenance department painting in all the schools. Warren had a passion for traveling and riding Americas Roller Coasters. His joyous stories captured our amazement as he described Coaster after Coaster and city after city. Warren was one of the most knowledgeable men I ever knew. And a very modest man. Never boasted and was ALWAYS available if you needed something. Yes, gone too soon.

I came to Pitman in 1969. At that time Mr. Swartwood was the only chemistry teacher. I taught beside him for 25 years. He was the department head. When I retired I tried to apologize for all the grief I had caused him over all those years. He gave me his usual gentle smile as if to say that it was alright. I almost constantly complained about what I felt was the administration's sanquination of our chemistry courses. He endured my histrionics with tolerance, forbearance, patience, understanding, and most of all, kindness. He had the wisdom to realize that I was fighting a battle I was bound to lose. Eventually I would become embarrassed and forced to apologize for my stupidity. Whenever I returned to Pitman I went to see him and often repeated my lack of understanding of how the world worked. We shared so much and had so many memories. It was a comfort to be so close that we often didn't need to say a word and to enjoy each others company. I loved him!

Mr. Swartwood, as I knew him, was my chemistry teacher at PHS in 1972. My classmates and I loved having him - and despite our ineptness at Chem experiments, he was always patient and able to help us find success. I even received the Chemistry award at graduation, so you know that he was quite persistent in helping students like me succeed. Please know how much of an impact he made in encouraging students to do their best and find success! My prayers are with you as you say farewell and celebrate the life of this wonderful individual.

Warren was a kind and caring individual who I was lucky enough to know and teach with.He was a dedicated professional with a wonderful sense of humor. Students were very fortunate to have him as a teacher. As a fellow dog lover who often ran into him on walks at Alcyon park, it was always a good day when we were able to stop and talk about our pets.
