My deepest condolences to Alison and Mernie. I cannot think back on my childhood without recalling memories that included fun times with your dad. May your memories of him bring you comfort and strength.

Russ was one of my heroes, my fraternity brother, well read and revered for his wisdom, humor and devotion to KSU, Kappa Sigma Upsilon. Russ lived at KSU, one of ten house residents on N. 4th in Camden, Rutgers. In those days, the rest of us, two or so dozen, commuted like everyone else on campus. As a pledge, I first encountered Russ after breeching fraternity etiquette, and under threat of blackball, polished his cowboy boots. One day Russ’s British racing green roadster always parked at the rear entrance of our “house”, a coveted spot, went missing. Suddenly, the threat of “hell night” for us mortal pledges loomed and his steed reappeared before dark. In later life, Russ maintained a law practice in center city Philly nearby a trust bank, my employer. Trusts were Russ’s specialty. I invited him over to meet our management team, business development. In the executive dining room and glass enclosed private space, Russ passed up the shrimp cocktail and beef entree in favor of a baloney sandwich. You gotta love this guy! He was his own man. He invited me back to his office and most memorable, there perched atop his desk was a rotary phone, the first I had seen in decades. Economical for sure Russ explained. Over the years, Russ helped me with his legal advice on several occasions, often times waiving fees owing to our kinship. David Russell, may you Rest In Peace.
Salve,
Gene Ramsbottom

When I was very little Auntie, my parents, our grandmother, and I all lived together before Auntie married Uncle Russ. Russie, as I called him then, was dating Auntie, and when he came to pick her up on date nights, he always picked me up. It was always such a treat getting scooped up by a friendly giant (in my mind) to retrieve a Necco wintergreen mint from his shirt pocket! It is a memory that I cherish even today, more than 50 years later, along with many other zany and fun-filled ones.
