My childhood days were so long ago that I don’t have all that many memories of them, but I’ve always had fond memories of Chip as one of my closest childhood friends.
I think we went all through school together, from first grade all the way to high school graduation. I remember things like his mom introducing me to real Southern fried chicken and grits, accompanied by dandelion salad. I remember asking her, “Dandelion salad? I thought those were weeds!” His dad taught me skeet shooting at Chip’s grandfather’s little farm down towards Cape May.
And Chip’s big, blue-green convertible (a Bonneville?) captured all the looks riding down to the Shore. I met Janie soon after they had become serious, and I think I told Chip what a lucky guy he was and not to “mess it up.”
We fished together, hunted together and did dumb things together. Fortunately, we grew up and got smarter together too—luckily for both of us.
As happens too often for many of us, he and I had lost touch with one another, having gone our separate ways in life. I recall attending the WHS 50th (?) reunion and asking fellow classmates what Chip was up to and learning only that he was “working in something having to do with a medical field in Wash Township.”
Learning of his passing is, indeed, very sad news. He was one of my favorite friends, and I’m sure he will be sorely missed by many. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
And Chip, may you rest in peace, My Friend.

Chip will always be remembered with love and admiration. As kids, we were always close, sharing great times and memories with Mom & Dad. Recently he would come to the shore and enjoy our times and chats remembering baseball games, frozen custard and eating popcorn. Thanks for the memories and will always love you. Your cousin.
