I'll truly miss Dirk. Dirk was a significant influence in my life. He taught me to play chess, read and understand the dictionary, and to look to God, nature and life with vigor.
Dirk was such a significant influence in my life that I named my first born after him. My son wonders why there's not a lot of other people with his first name.
I spent time playing soccer, softball and some canoeing with Dirk. I'll always have extremely fond memories of Dirk.
Say hi to God for me Dirk!

Dirk’s family: I'm so sorry for your loss. I went through a similar situation and I was very helped by the hope that I found in the Bible in John 5: 28, which says, "Do not amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I am sending you a link with more information on this hope.

He was my school teacher back in Montana, many moons ago. I'll never forget him crawling up the steel beam (without a safety harness) to get the volleyballs that were stuck between the beam and the tin roof. He had guts! He was also always pushing us kids to do what was right and true. I appreciated that, and knew it was his heart.

Karen and all! I didn’t know your husband and father, but he sounds wonderful! I especially like the creation science part. I get the ICR magazine. He will leave a big hole in your lives but please remember the good memories, talk about them and don’t be afraid to grieve. With love and prayers, candy

I am so sorry on the loss of your dear Dirk. He sounds like he was such an accomplished man secularly and an extremely loving father/ husband/ friend. It's so very hard when a family member passes away, and I pray for healing and calmness for you at this time. It is encouraging to know that God is here for us in our time of need, as we are reminded at Psalms 34:17 & 18, where we read that he rescues us from our distresses and he wants to comfort those who mourn. My deepest condolences to those who knew and loved Mr. McNeely.

Dear Karen, Megan, Erin, Shannon, and Drew,
We loved Dirk and always appreciated his wisdom, sense of humor, and love for the Lord. You guys were SO formative for us as we were starting the church in Evanston, WY. Not sure we would have made it without you. From housing Ray on a couple of different occasions as he wrestled with scarce housing in a boomtown, to encouraging us when the going got especially tough. I remember one time asking Dirk why he wasn't saying much. His answer, "You don't learn anything when you are talking. You have to listen for that to happen." That has been one of my pieces of advice to pastors I work with ever since. His love for learning and for his family were always an inspiration to us. He always enjoyed the beauty of God's creation, and we can only imagine how much he is currently enjoying the beauty of God's heaven. Rejoicing with you that he has been able to successfully make that transition and really glad we have someone there that will be able help us knowledgeably make that transition when the time comes - doing what he does best.
We love you all and are very thankful for you!
Ray and Donice Van Gilst

Dearest Karen,
What a blessing and privilege it was to know Dirk, albeit a short time. Knowing your kids, I can tell that he was someone truly special as each of the kids share bits and pieces of his character.
We’re so thankful to get to know Shannon’s Daddy, the father of four great kids, your dear husband! We’re continually thankful for the Lord uniting our families together thru Justin & Shannon’s marriage! And now we grieve with you, as a privilege, not without hope as the scriptures say!
Being separated for only a little while, in God’s perfect timing and moment we will meet Dirk at the feet of Jesus! We look forward to that day when all suffering and the effects of sin are halted!
It certainly has been a blessing to walk this short path with you and your family, and we look forward to many more years of blessings!

Some of my very first memories in this life are of your family. Of your father’s big teddy bear smile and kind and gentle nature. Your family was a source of warmth to our family when we first moved to the Wild West if Wyoming in the early 80s. Megan and Erin, you were two of my first friends that I remember from early childhood. And although the years and distance have separated our families, I haven’t forgotten my early and first formed memories being spent around you all and your father’s gentle and kind spirit. We were two kindred spirit families in the early stages of life. What a bittersweet moment this is. I’m so honored to have known him and you all at such a formitive time in my life. I look forward to seeing Dirk again someday when we meet Jesus face to face. My prayer is for peace and understanding and what it is that The Spirit will impart to you each most strongly through these difficult days. I’m so sorry for your loss. There are no words to express what you need to feel for any sense of understanding right now. My love and deepest regards to you all.

Dirk was one of my 10th grade teachers in Evanston, Wyoming. He was the best teacher I ever had and he MADE me do in depth research papers. He and I were the only Bible believing Christians in a class full of Mormons.
I know he is in absolute awe of Heaven.
