I met Bruce in 1974, when we were bankers in an MBA-level management training program in Baltimore. I thought the job was difficult; Bruce handled it easily, while going to law school in his spare time. We enjoyed socializing after work, and our wives, Barbara and Pam, became good friends, too.
After a few years as bankers, we went in different directions. But over the years we stayed in touch and got together occasionally. Now that we were all retired, just this year, the four of us were looking forward to spending time together. We were fixing up the guest room for their arrival.
Bruce was a Marine in Vietnam, with arduous and distinguished service. He was a good husband, father, and grandfather. Bruce was a hardworking and successful businessman and public servant. He was broadly knowledgeable and the wisest person I knew, and I sought his opinion and advice. Bottom line, Bruce excelled in everything he did.
They don't make them like Bruce Ware anymore. He will be missed.
