To the Ewan girls.... I want to say how very sorry I am that I didn't attend your father's funeral. I was unaware of your father's passing until this past Sunday evening...when I received a phone call. Patty, Sherry and Roy know how many breakfasts I had with your father and I ALWAYS enjoyed talking with him at the Fireside Rest. He even allowed me to interview him, once, on behalf of the Pitman Memorabilia Committee. It was at that time that I learned even more about your dad. It seemed that everyone in and around Pitman knew your dad. Whether you referred to him as Woody, Lefty or Elwood...you knew of him. I truly wish I had had that opportunity of being there for his viewing/funeral to pay my RESPECTS for that wonderful man! May God bless your family and Woody! I will most certainly miss him.

Very sorry to heat of the Colonels passing. I enjoyed talking with him and his family at the Fireside Restaurant during breakfast. I had no idea he had passed and am very sorry I could not have honored him and spoke to his family. Woodie has answered the long roll call and I am sure is surrounded by old comrades in arms and his dear wife. Fair winds and a following sea Colonel. Semper Fidelis.

For Betty, Sherry, Patty, and Connie,
Betty, your family was part of my life from the time we were little until I grew up and moved from Pitman. For all those years that I was at your house EVERY DAY – except when you were at mine – your parents were there. Influencing, sharing, caring – I’m not sure I ever realized how much your parents were part of my life until now. Your house was so different from my own. Your parents different from mine. I’m certain that they contributed to the person I am today. Reflecting back feels good. Sad, but good.
When visiting my Mom and Dad, I might run into your Dad around town… always a smile and a big hug. Once I realized he was at Fireside Restaurant regularly, I would suggest to Mom that we stop there for lunch hoping we would run into him.
Each of you, Betty’s sisters, has a place in my heart whether you know it or not. I have fond memories of each of you and my sympathy goes out to you all… Sherry, Patty, Betty, and Connie, the Ewan girls, and your families.
Betty, I’m so glad random circumstance (fate) intervened on Sunday and I got to see you for a short visit.
Be well always, Krista (Hendlmyer) Kendall

Dear Connie, Betty, Patty and Sherry,
Your Dad and Mom have always been in my life. There is not a time where I do not remember them being a smile, wave, invite to come over and much more. Your Dad was a little gruff at times and sometimes I felt a little unsure as a child with his loud voice. Yet, his eyes always twinkled when he used his big, deep voice to called to us at the pool or when he inquired about what we were doing. I enjoyed all the hugs and support at church, he always asked about the kids and sporting events and much more. Through the years I have visited your Dad and enjoyed hearing stories and thoughts. He is a man of many areas and loves all that is around him.
He will be missed at the local restaurants, at church and most of all my yearly caroling stop for church when I get to give him a Christmas hug.
Love the life he lived, enjoy the stories, memories and love. We are sending ours too.

I grew up in the First Presbyterian Church in Pitman, and Mr. Ewan was such a wonderful and kind man. As a kid, it was easy to be intimidated by his tall stature, but all he had to do was speak to you in his kind and gentle way for you to know he was a friend. He was truly an integral part of our church family, his years of service and dedication to God will not be forgotten. I feel lucky to have known and worshiped with him. My condolences to his family.
