Dearest Gene,
We will always remember you as our Dear Friend with a kind heart a gentle spirit whose profession as a Nurseryman was a “labor of love.” You always had the most beautiful Nursery Stock and your knowledge of the plants which you grew was like that of an Encyclopedia! Doing business with you was like doing business with a good friend … because that is what you were! You would always assist with, and watch over, the loading of your beautiful plants and often give advice on how to transport them safely to their destination … as if they were your children. Whenever we would arrive at your Nursery, you would always see you working so hard and yet you would take the time to greet us like a father asking sincerely how everything was going and how we were doing. Your firm handshakes, with your large gentle hands, always gave us a sense of security making us feel as if we were young children again holding our Father’s hand. Our conversations together were always polite and sincere and you were a good listener who would always give sound advice.
Going to Hillcrest Nursery to gather plantings for the “next job” was always our highlight of the “planning and design process” and was more like a mini vacation, rather than a routine task, thanks to you and your Family! You did business with many Landscape Companies throughout South Jersey and your Nursery Stock stands out beautifully in many Residential and Commercial Properties throughout the area. We cannot walk out into our yard, and look in any one direction, without thinking of YOU and your wonderful smile and personality! We thank the Lord that we were able to spend time with you, prior to your medical episode that evening, throughout the week and prior to you going to be with our Lord. We thank your Family for treating us like Family and allowing us the opportunity to visit with you in the Hospital and to say our final farewell to such an Honorable Man. We also consider it an absolute Honor to have been your last customer after your many years of hard work and dedication to your chosen Profession!
Godspeed to you, our Dear Friend Eugene W. Thies Jr., and may you rest in our Lord’s arms knowing that Faye, Eugene, David and Andrew will all be fine as you have nurtured them and shown them through example how to be strong, to trust in the Lord and to have Faith! “Well Gene … we know one thing for certain now that you’ve gone … there is going to be one helluva garden awaiting us when we finally get to Heaven!” We love you Gene and THANK YOU!!! :’(
To Faye, Eugene, David and Andrew,
It is hard to find the right words to say to even begin to express how deeply saddened we are in the passing of such a wonderful Husband, Father and Friend. Please know that we are praying for you and we are here for you! We love you all so very much and we thank the Lord for bringing us together in a friendship that will last a lifetime! God bless you all!
With all of our love … always and forever,
Joe, Lori, Amanda & Brianna

While I only met Gene a few times at my daughters house I came to know him as a gentle man who was kind, gracious and a pleasure to speak to. He will be missed by his family and friends. Rest in peace, Gene.
